Top Post By greely (1 thumbs up):

I am no WW specialist but I have taught beginning clarinet classes (years ago). Who ever is still teaching this needs to either be shot or forced into early retirement. That is like seeing beginning band directors teaching traditional sticking to 6th graders. Sad. Feel sorry for the kids. How can they succeed if they are crippled from the get go.

Re: TMEA

September 25, 2009 by greely

I do not know of any other forums.

I think that it would be a good idea to meet people from other cities or regions.
We also would need to find a way to inform more people.

Any suggestions?

Re: Certification Test

August 30, 2009 by greely

I have.

Ear training was the hard part for me.  Somewhat rigorous.   It is my understanding that the test has become harder than it used to be.  I know of some people that have had to retake the test several times before they were able to pass it.

Good luck.

Re: How do you collect lesson payments?

July 18, 2009 by greely

I do a combination.  Emails and statements by mail.  I prefer the e-mail obviously because it is more effecient and saves on postage and any possible long distance fees or additional cell phone charges.

England seems to be having an escalation in deaths from Swine Flu.  I wonder how long it will take before that begins to occur here in the U.S.?  Probably just a matter of time.  We may all being looking at Maestro's poll again.

Re: Where do most beginners purchase their horns?

June 16, 2009 by greely

I think that a major problem is the lack of consistency between stores, reps, directors and lesson teachers on what is considered a quality product.  Stores sometimes tend to want to unload inventory and sell a product that is inferior but with a huge mark up on their end.  Can't blame them sometimes.  Directors need to be better informed.  I know it is hard, but sometimes the directors need to actually ask someone who really knows the instruments for advice.  Heaven forbid a director ask a lesson teacher who is far more qualified in a particular instrument for advice.  If I am ever a director, I will.
