Has Vandoren made any changes in the process in which the reeds are made? They seem different. I have heard this from other teachers and players as well. Not sure what is happening.

Yes. There have been some changes.

I seemed to recall much discussion about this about a year ago. Most people came to the consensus that it was due to the change in packaging. ??? Who knows. Then there are some who would say that the quality of Vandoren reeds has been in a gradual state of decline.
To each their own.

In all fairness, Vandorens are still more consistent than most brands.
