What is the preferred Tuba mouthpiece for beginners. It seems that most directors use the Bach 24w or its equivalent. Is the Helleberg to large to start off with?

The Bach 24W mouthpiece or its equal seems to be the standard. It has a rounder rim where the Helleberg has a flatter rim and a sharper inside edge against the lips. I think the smaller 24W is good because of the comfort factor and the general size of the beginner.

The Bach 24W does seem to be the standard mouthpiece. Personally I am not a huge fan of it, but you got to start somewhere and Maestro did bring up some good points. When you are looking at Helleberg mouthpieces realize that there is a Helleberg and a Helleberg 7B. The 7B is a bit smaller than the regular Helleberg as I recall. Anyways something to take note of and research for your own conclusions.

I have not seen the 7B, although I have heard of it. I will have to try and find one and try it out.
