Definately prefer the wood, but with the shrinking supply of wood there will be more of a demand for the composites. I would prefer the composite over plastics. Anybody have a preference for a particular composite clarinet?
I play an R13 (early 60's vintage). According to the blindfold tests that I know about, the experts could not tell the difference between clarinets made from several different materials. As long as the design and workmanship are of the highest quality it does not seem to make much difference what they are made of.
Some people say that the quality of the R13 has diminished considerably over the years as compared to the older (vintage) R13's. Are those blindfold tests comparing the newer models or have the tests compared some of the older more favored vintage models against the recent composites?
